Project Update (October 2024)

Hello everyone! Long time no see – apologies for the extended silence. They say even the dead can come back to life on Halloween, so here we are, returned, with both good and bad news.

Let me reassure everyone who's been worried: the project is not shutting down or being canceled. I hope that’s the kind of good news you’re looking for. Although the development has been rough and off-schedule, I’m still fully committed to seeing this project through to release, however long it may take.

The bad news, though, is... well, it’s that development has been rough and off-schedule. I’m sorry and want to apologize if things aren’t matching your expectations. This is my first large project, and I’ve made plenty of mistakes managing it. I didn’t properly assess risks, didn’t allocate resources effectively, and took on too much myself without finding enough support – which has left the game far from release, even for a demo version.

The next piece of news comes as a conclusion from the last one. I don’t want this lengthy development to just be a wait with no content for everyone. I want to release material related to the project, but as an actual game, that’s taking more time than I’d like. Right now, I’m not even comfortable estimating the time because past attempts at predicting deadlines haven’t gone well.

So, I’ve decided to focus our efforts on a webcomic that will tell the story of Chapter 1 and introduce the whole plot. Some of you may remember that the original plan was to work on both the webcomic and the demo in parallel, but it’s become clear that handling both at once just isn’t possible. Realizing the comic is a more achievable task than creating a demo in Gamemaker, I’d rather tackle something we can finish than make big promises that we can’t deliver.

In working on this project, my favorite part has always been the conceptual side. I love creating the story and world, and composing music that adds to them. These are the things I enjoy and do best. But of course, they need a tangible form to be experienced, and creating that form has been the hardest part for me. A video game is, in my opinion, the perfect form for the story I want to tell, but a comic is at least an acceptable one. So for now, we’ll begin with a form that works, and if it’s received warmly and people enjoy it, I hope we’ll gain more opportunities – and maybe, eventually, turn it into a full-fledged fan game.

Lastly, we won’t be disappearing for so long anymore. Development updates will be small but will come out every month, on any chosen day of that month (not always on the same day). I hope this extra motivation will keep us moving forward, so there’s always something new to report.

That’s all for now. I’m sorry if these announcements let anyone down – I feel bad about how things have turned out, too. Thank you to everyone who will continue to support the project, now in its new webcomic format. See you soon!
